Here’s what went down: A recent broadcast of Arab Idol, shown on Arabic satellite channel MBC, made the unforgivable mistake of showing Israel on the map. Instead of Palestine or Cancerous Zionist Entity.
Seething, including calls to boycott the program, ensued.
Incidentally, last year’s winner was Mohammad Assaf from “Palestine,” which you may have heard about recently when I posted this.
Meanwhile, this is a good opportunity as ever to post this video of a Japanese contestant singing in Arabic.
According to this account, she “blew away the jury and the audience by her perfect rendition of one of the most beautiful songs of the Arabic diva, Fairusz.”
And best of all, no-one was even injured.
