Western Australian Branch of Labor Party Passes Stunning Pro-Israel Motion

Some more excellent news from Australia, with the Western Australian branch of the Labor party standing in support of Israel in the face of the terror attacks we are enduring.

Via Luke Walladge, a senior member of the Australian Labor Party (ALP):

Delighted to see WA Labor accept our motion unanimously this evening, standing in support of our fellow liberal, tolerant, secularist democracy Israel.

Disappointed to see some delegates abstain from the vote, and even more disappointed to see one delegate insist that the abstainers’ names not be noted.

I’ve thought that a motion condemning murder was worthy of support, and that anyone who didn’t agree might’ve put their name to it.
If you’re ashamed of your own position, it’s time to reconsider it.
However, what’s important is WA Labor’s stance – that murder is wrong, that terrorism is never justified and that those who excuse these things are to be repudiated. May it ever be so.

The wording of the motions is significant. It condemns palestinian terror attacks, deplores the incitement – including that of Abbas and the PA – rejects the “occupation and settlement” root cause arguments, and affirms Israel’s right to self-defense.

The Labor party has not been known for its pro-Israel proclivities in recent times, with the likes of Israel hater Bob Carr making the news. So I welcome this wonderful news (hat tip: Jonathan).
