It was one of the most iconic photos of the Rio Olympics: Egyptian beach volleyball player Doaa Elghobashy – in hijab, long sleeves and trousers – jumping with Kira Walkenhorst of Germany.
As one pundit stated, it caused the Internet to “go berserk.”

I am for freedom of choice. Hijab and Bikini should BOTH accepted, by Muslims too!

Well, it unfortunately turns out that Elghobashy is an Israel hater.
An Olympic volleyball player from Egypt reacted with anger on Tuesday to a photobomb by an unknown figure clad in an Israeli flag.
Doaa Elghobashy, 19, who, with her Egyptian partner Nada Meawad, finished last in her round of beach volleyball in Rio, posted the photo of herself and the flag-draped woman behind on her Facebook page, with the words: “I swear to God I didn’t know anything about the flag. There will never be peace between me and these people in my life. These people are dirty to a level that they didn’t let me see the flag.”
I am detecting a trend with Hijab-wearing athletes.
Maybe she and Egyptian judoka Islam El Shahaby can hook up and make some hateful babies together.
