Well, isn’t this awkward for Israel haters.
At the cabinet meeting today, Minister Miri Regev presented a coin from the era of the revolt against the Romans, from the year 67 CE. The coin was uncovered recently during excavations at the City of David.
On one side of the coin there is a vine with the Hebrew words “Freedom of Zion”. On the other side, there is an omer cup and the words “Year Two of the Great Revolt” – that is, the year 67 CE.
Nothing can erase our deep connection to the Land of Israel. We will continue to strengthen our connection to our land and to Jerusalem our capital.
We are used to the haters trying to use British mandate coins as proof there was a state of Palestine, all because they contain the word “Palestine” (even though they also contain א”י, the abbreviation for ארץ ישראל – Hebrew for the land of Israel). But there’s absolutely no way they can spin this – coins with the word “Zion”, which are almost 1,900 years older – to fit their false narrative.
