British pop superstar Harry Styles is the latest victim of the so-called “cancel culture”, with Israel-hating and antisemitic Twitter users using the hashtag #harrystylesisoverparty.
His crime? Supposedly being a Zionist.
The Twitter user goes on to explain that he lifted the hammer to be nice to his fans who left it for him. She also claims that “Harry has never donated to any funds related to Israel, but has donated to palestinian funds.” She includes a link to a tweet that supposed lists these funds, but the tweet seems to have been removed.
I am not sure whether or not Harry has donated to palestinian causes; I have seen no evidence of this, although his fan base has donated to palestinian causes in honor of his birthday.
The Palestinian charity was chosen after Harry himself has offered support to refugees in the Middle East through donations to organisations like Action Against Hunger and children’s charities like Children In Need.
Sounds to me like he offered general support, and not to palestinian refugees in particular.
What I do know (and have written out before) is Harry loves the Jewish religion (because he lived with an Orthodox Jewish family for a while). And it is not the first time he has been subjected to hate for supposed supporting Israel.
Wherever or not he supports Israel is not the point. The mere fact people have claimed he does is enough for so many to turn on him. Because being sympathetic towards the Jewish people and their aspirations to live in their historical homeland is apparently a huge crime.
