WATCH: African-Israeli Pop Star Stephane Legar: I’m in Dubai

This is going to give the haters a real headache: An African pop star from so-called “apartheid” Israel singing about Dubai.

In fact, let the haters stew on Stephane’s story.

Stephane Gagba was born in Bat Yam, Israel, to Christian parents from Togo. His parents were foreign diplomats working in the Nigerian embassy in Israel. He has an older sister. As a child he spent most of his holidays visiting Togo.

At the age of 12, Legar moved with his family to Holon near Tel-Aviv. He studied in the youth village Mikveh Israel, in its French sector. He decided to remain in the country and learn Hebrew. After obtaining Israeli citizenship, he served in the Israeli Defense Forces in a unit responsible for explaining the recruitment process to high schoolers.

In 2019, he became one of the most popular artists in Israel.
