Antisemite Asa Winstanley is Gaslighting Again

As I have posted in the past, Asa Winstanley of the Electronic Intifada is – like his boss Ali “Abumination” Abunimah – a vile Jew hater.

One of his favorite past-times is to engage in gaslighting by accusing pro-Israel people of being antisemitic. And he’s done it yet again, this time targeting Israel’s new ambassador to the UK, Tzipi Hotovely.

Israel’s new ambassador to the UK stereotyped a Jewish human rights group in anti-Semitic terms, The Electronc Intifada has learned.

In a Hebrew YouTube video last year, Tzipi Hotovely mocked Breaking the Silence as being motivated by money.

In a gross caricature, the mostly animated video depicts the group’s activists losing their funding then saying: “Oy vey! My German Euros!”

Depictions of Jews as greedy are a major theme in the history of anti-Semitic stereotypes.

Hotovely released the video to her YouTube channel last year as part of her campaign in the ruling Likud Party’s primary elections.

The revelation that Hotovely promoted an anti-Jewish stereotype opens her to charges of hypocrisy.

“Corbyn is a real danger”
She intervened in Britain’s general election campaign last year when she was Israel’s deputy foreign minister.

Hotovely accused then Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn of anti-Semitism.

“Corbyn is a real danger to Israel-Britain relations,” she said. “The things that Corbyn says, and the wind blowing through Labour today, is a wind of anti-Semitism … this election is really a fateful election.”

Anti-Semitism expert and founder of the Institute for Jewish Policy Research Antony Lerman told The Electronic Intifada that the video demonstrated “the degree to which the ‘principles’ and practice of hard right Jewish ethno-nationalism are now simply the new normal in Israeli politics.”

Describing the video as containing an “anti-Semitic trope,” Lerman said that, “For Hotovely, the only definition of anti-Semitism that matters is failure to support Israel come what may.”

Hebrew translator and Israel expert Dena Shunra said the video was “the most anti‑Semitic trope I’ve seen today, and that’s saying something.”

I have to say that the video depiction is problematic, and I would have expected better from Tzipi who is usually an articulate advocate for the rights of Jews in our homeland. She is also an observant and proud Jewess. Tzipi should have known better than to have gone anywhere near this antisemitic trope. Perhaps she felt it was ok because the intended audience were Hebrew speakers, but that just shows naivety.

Yet Winstanley is hardly one to talk. He constantly engages in the antisemitic trope of a powerful Jewish lobby, and has belittled charges of antisemitism within the UK Labour Party. Funny how he never seemed to have any issue with the constant and real antisemitic tropes being disseminated by Labour Party members, designed to stoke hatred against the Jewish people.

Winstanley is also extremely dishonest. While he quotes a couple of Jewish people in his piece, Antony Lerman and Dena Shunra

Describing the video as containing an “anti-Semitic trope,” Lerman said that, “For Hotovely, the only definition of anti-Semitism that matters is failure to support Israel come what may.”

they are both rabid Jew-haters.

This is all you need to know about Lerman

When Lerman became an outspoken supporter of a “one-state solution” that would replace Israel with a Muslim-majority Palestinian state, his ties to mainstream Jewish organizations fell apart, and the IJPR leadership ignored him and pursued its goals without his input or support until he got the hint and resigned in 2009. Since then, Lerman has often used the UK newspaper Guardian’s “Comment is Free” section to advocate for the disavowal of Zionism and the one-state goal, which has earned him many fans on the pro-Palestinian Left but also resulted in him being completely ignored by the UK Jewish community and its leadership.

And Shunra actually provides research and translation services for the likes of the Electronic Intifada and Richard Silverstein. In other words, there are two very bad Jews with an agenda.

Of course, I am sure they will claim me calling them bad Jews is antisemitic, but I’m not going to shy away from the truth.
