So it turns out Batwoman was Jewish.

On Sunday night’s episode of The CW show “Batwoman,” the superhero received a notably Jewish funeral after she was presumed to be dead.
Bruce Wayne’s maternal cousin Kate Kane, also known as Batwoman, is written as a lesbian and an openly Jewish character. First introduced in the comic books as Jewish, she was played in the show’s first season by Ruby Rose, who left the program after she sustained an injury during a stunt. British actress Wallis Day has taken over the role.
Kane is presumed dead at the beginning of the second season, having been involved in a plane crash. At the start of episode 9 on Sunday, the character was given a Jewish funeral, complete with a plain wooden coffin marked with a Star of David. Mourners wore kippahs and recited “May her memory be a blessing” at the conclusion of the ceremony.
Finally, after some very negative depictions, a “positive” depiction of a Jew on television. Shame it had to be of a dead Jew.
Which is kind of fitting – isn’t that the way the world looks at us? They seem to prefer dead Jews to strong, living ones.
Update: I buried the lede.
But what often goes overlooked is that not only is Kane Jewish, but she is also the maternal cousin to Bruce Wayne, also known as one of DC’s most iconic superheroes, Batman (as in, her father is the brother of Batman’s mother, Martha).
The implications of this revelation means that not only is Batwoman Jewish, but so too is Batman, by virtue of having a Jewish mother (traditionally, halachic authorities have considered Judaism to be inherited matrilineally, meaning if one’s mother is Jewish, so are they).
Once people catch on to Batman being halachically Jewish, there will be calls to condemn him for disproportionate force.
