A number of palestinian propaganda Facebook pages have lauded Hanna Barakat – a US born-and-bred runner who competed for Team Palestine at the Olympics (presumably because one of her parents was born in Israel or British mandate Palestine) – for “finishing fifth in the 100m.”
And she did finish fifth – in her heat. She did not finish fifth overall.
So what these posts is claiming is not exactly true.
I have no problem with athletes with palestinian Arab heritage doing well at the Olympics – although I do have an issue with the non-state of Palestine being there at all, especially given their bloody Olympics legacy. But why are their propaganda sites constantly lying and misleading, even about seemingly trivial things?
