Last week, Rabbi Marcus Solomon was sworn into the Supreme Court of Western Australia, becoming the first Orthodox Jewish rabbi to be appointed to an Australian Supreme Court. In the following video, he recites the Jewish prayer of Shehecheyanu, which is typically recited to celebrate new experiences.
At a time of rising antisemitism, this is particularly moving.
I should also point out that Rabbi Solomon was one of my high school teachers, law school tutors, Rabbis and friends. A prodigious intellect and moral voice, the Supreme Court of WA will be much better with his wise counsel.
