Jewish Voice for Peace’s Latest Hanukkah Mockery

Those JVP as-a-Jews are at it again, and by “it” I mean co-opting Jewish practice in order to make a complete mockery of it and bash Israel.

They’ve created a bunch of events around Hanukkah, naming this bullshitapalooza Hannukkah Against Apartheid. Or as I prefer to call it, HAA!

Come celebrate Hanukkah this year building a radical, loving, anti-Zionist Jewish movement for liberation.

Hanukkah means rededication. This Hanukkah Against Apartheid, we rededicate our resolve to be bold and win against all that is life-taking and land-grabbing.

It is said, the Temple was cleaned, sanctified, and rededicated after the Maacabees won the fight. Here, in diaspora, we can recognize the “Temple” as what we are building together: Judaism beyond Zionism. The Temple is where we practice our treasured values of justice, freedom, and equality; it is this practice that sanctifies the Temple.

Note how they seem to actually know Hanukkah revolves around rededication of the Jewish Temple (in Jerusalem). Have the center of life revolving around Jerusalem is pretty much peak Zionism, yet these as-a-Jews are co-opting the festival to have an anti-Zionist meaning. They truly are the Hellenists of our day!

HAA’s activities include something called Rewriting Hanooka, “an interactive conversation that envisions Hanooka beyond Zionism and gendered violence.” And if you think that sounds kooky (it does), wait until you see what they have in store for the 9th night of the 8-day Hanukkah:
