Avraham “Avera” Mengistu is a mentally-unstable Ethiopian-Israeli man who crossed into Gaza on September 7, 2014, was detained and interrogated by Hamas, and has been missing ever since.
Hamas has insisted Avera was an Israeli soldier, not just a civilian, even though his family has provided paperwork showing that he was released from military service because of his mental illness.
The lie about Avera being a soldier continues to this very day, with the palestinian propaganda site Gaza Now posting the following on their Telegram channel and Facebook page:

The Mengistu family from Ethiopia has been lying to the media that her son is not a soldier in the ranks of the Israeli occupation and that he is mentally disturbed until the Palestinian resistance releases him because they know that she deals with prisoners as Islam, but the surprise turns out that he is a soldier in the ranks of the occupation army and he is a captive in Gaza 🇵🇸
The top photo is of another person entirely, and dates to at least 2012, years before Avera was captured. But even more to the point, the two men do not even look remotely alike.* (Gaza Now have since deleted the Facebook post, although the Telegram post remains).
By claiming the two men are the same person, these propagandists are basically saying “all Black people look alike.” Not that the Wokesters and BLM will have anything to say about it – just like they have had nothing to say about Avera’s plight.
