While normal people will be looking at Anne Frank’s date of birth in two more days as an opportunity to reflect on a life cut short, as well as a reminder as to what the evil of humanity is capable of, there are those who have seen it as an opportunity to remind us that the evil of humanity is alive and well.
And this isn’t even the first time such vile things have been tweeted about her:

I would like to add that the same people who are posting such vile drivel are invariably those who detest the Jewish state…and the Jewish people.
A while back, I was asked to speak to a group visiting Israel. Arriving at the hotel ahead of time, I spoke to the organizers, who told me that after weeks of visiting the sites of Israel, learning from a variety of speakers, and general absorbing the atmosphere here, the participants now understood a lot more about our amazing country and the challenges we face. In short, they would be a sympathetic audience.
My plan was to speak about why Israel is the most maligned country on the planet (spoiler alert: Jew hatred), and my talk would tackle some of the libels against us, including that we are an apartheid state and a bunch of white colonizers who expelled the real indigenous people of the land.
I explained how I was born in Australia because my mother’s family ended up there escaping the pogroms in Russia, while my dad’s family got out of Germany a year before the Holocaust began and set sail for the farthest place from there. I then spoke of how it is us – the Jews – who are indigenous to the land, pointing out how I can trace my roots back to the tribe of Levi (even though my grandparents were from Europe).
One of the participants – who happened to be a person of color – raised their hand and asked “Isn’t that (being able to trace your roots back to a tribe of ancient Israelites) a form of White privilege?”
I was shocked at the time and almost rendered speechless. Now seeing these tweets, I am experiencing a form of PTSD.
I fear for the next generation.
