Over a week ago, I posted the following photo and caption during Sukkot, one of the most joyous of Jewish festivals:
Sure, I was making a point about our connection to our land, but my friend Harry noticed something else when he commented:
Why so solemn? It’s a celebration!
He had a point. And I have an issue.
I am burnt out.
After almost 20 years of running this website on an almost daily basis, and focusing on fighting antisemitism for the best past of the last decade, I need a break. One a bit longer than each Shabbat and Jewish festival when I detach from my computer and smartphone and stay offline.
Israellycool is a one-man band. I write all the posts – except for the very occasional reader post or guest post – and I also edit the videos, handle the social media, and perform other tasks related to running a non-profit.
And while I am passionate about it and see it is as important, it is taking its toll.
So for now, I am going to step back – albeit just for the better part of a week – and try to recharge my batteries. Batteries that have become almost flat, thanks to feeling overwhelmed doing it myself (as well as looking after my five beautiful children alone) – but also due, in no small part, to the rising tide of antisemitism that is beginning to drown me. To drown all of us.
