Yesterday, I ripped Australian Greens MP Jenny Leong, who claims to detest racism, yet unleashed some antisemitism at an anti-Israel event in December. To make matters worse, her attempt at an “apology” was anything but.
I am not sure if it was my post (which I tweeted to her and I assume she saw) that did it , but either way, she has now released a new-and-improved “apology”:
Here she now addresses not just her use of the word “tentacles”, but her entire suggestion that Jews only get involved in social justice causes for ulterior motives. The fact she did not even think to address this with her first “apology” is remarkable.
Note also she mentions Hamas not even once in this “apology.” She does not call for the return of the innocent hostages, nor condemn the genocidal butchery they perpetrated. Yet she calls herself a “committed human rights and anti-racism advocate.”
What is also telling is that last line:
I also promise to continue speaking out about the ongoing genocidal attacks and apartheid occurring in Gaza.
Besides the accusations of genocide and apartheid being entirely false, when Israel-haters normally speak of so-called “Israeli apartheid,” they are usually referring to the rights of Israeli-Arabs as well as those living in the so-called “West Bank” (i.e Judea and Samaria). Most Israel-haters normally don’t apply the “apartheid” moniker to Gaza, given not even one Jew lives there. It is almost as if Leong is using these buzzwords robotically, without even thinking.
As I mentioned yesterday, the only thing Leong should do now is resign.
