Last month, I exposed Ahmed Alabadla, a project officer for NSW’s Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water who was promoting an energy embargo of Israel, in what seemed to be a clear conflict of interest.
Following my expose, Ahmed removed both his LinkedIn profile and the energy embargo webinar recording, but it was too little, too late, since I had taken screenshots and a copy of parts of the recording, which were included in my post. I also contacted his employer, who first assigned the case “to a senior member of their team for investigation and response,” and then followed up with this:
I refer to your email sent to Minister Penny Sharpe’s office regarding concerns raised relating to the conduct of a Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water staff member and their public views relating to the Israel/Gaza conflict.
The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (the Department) takes all complaints concerning staff conduct very seriously and I can confirm that this matter has been raised with the Department’s executive leadership team and a thorough review of the matter has been undertaken.
These matters are highly confidential therefore, I am unable to make any further comment as to the outcome of the review. However, I confirm that the Department remains committed to the ongoing awareness raising and training of all staff to ensure they recognises the role of public sector government agencies in preserving the confidence of the community of NSW in an apolitical public service, which continues to strive for professionalism and excellence in delivery of the commitments of the Government of the day.
So it is unclear whether or not Alabadla is still employed with them. I sincerely hope not, because if he is, that awareness raising and staff training do not seem to have worked very well.
Case in point: Alabadla recently hosted another Free Palestine Melbourne webinar discussing an energy embargo of Israel. In this one, he and Dr. Shir Hever openly discuss what they call the “achievement” of the October 7 attacks, revealing simultaneously a disturbing terrorist mindset and a deep understanding of international energy dynamics. They claim that the attacks successfully prevented plans to build a gas pipeline from Saudi Arabia to Europe, which would have solved Europe’s energy crisis following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In their view, leaving Europe to face energy shortages during the cold winter would force Europeans to support the palestinian Arab cause in exchange for normalization of energy relations with Saudi Arabia. They have no empathy for the low-income Europeans who would freeze to death in winter, let alone the victims of October 7.
I will be contacting the Department again to pass on these latest Alabadla exploits – in case they allowed him to remain employed in the hope he wouldn’t engage in such unbecoming behavior again.
