A few days ago, this incident from Townsville, Queensland was caught on film: two Israeli backpackers being subjected to antisemitic abuse by a worker at Flinders Tobacco:
I wanted to wait a bit before reporting on this, because I wanted to understand first whether this was the owner or just an employee.
According to this report by Natasha Emeck of the Townsville Bulletin, it was an employee
After being shown the clip, she provided her version of the events that led to the altercation.
“People can take their own thing away from that video, I don’t really give a s**t,” she said.
“There was an altercation in the store, words were exchanged and he was told to leave.”
“That video goes for 11 seconds, they’ll never share the rest because that wouldn’t be a good look for them.”
According to the shopkeeper, the dispute began after she served the backpackers, and one of them questioned the store’s donation box, which was raising funds for Palestine.
“He’s basically had a go at me, saying you need to research your donation box,” she said.
“The guy’s from Israel and he sees this [box] and he starts just running his mouth. So, I say get the f**k out of the shop.”
“I went outside and I also said to him, I don’t know if you can hear it, but I said my boss is an Arab.”
She further claimed that similar incidents had occurred previously, with other individuals “making big deal” about the Palestine donation box.
An examination of company records suggests she is telling the truth when she claims her boss is an Arab. As for her excuse for her behavior, nothing the Israeli said to her can possibly justify her calling him a “dirty, filthy f**king Jew.”
And now – well after the incident in which she would like us to believe she was reacting in the heat of the moment to some offensive comments – she still cannot bring herself to admit she was wrong saying what she did.
Because she clearly stands behind her comments and has a hatred for Jewish people. Which does not make her all that different from almost all of her fellow Israel-haters – she just happened to say the quiet part out loud and on camera.
