The Moment That Made Jimmy Carter’s Grammy Award Worth It

As regular readers will already know, I was not a fan of the recently deceased former US President Jimmy Carter. So when I heard he won a posthumous Grammy for an audio book, I wasn’t pleased.

Prior to his passing, Carter was nominated in the audio book, narration, and storytelling recording category at the 2025 Grammys for “Last Sundays in Plains: A Centennial Celebration,” recordings from his final Sunday School lessons delivered at Maranatha Baptist Church in Georgia. Musicians Darius Rucker, Lee Ann Rimes and Jon Batiste are featured on the record.

(I am assuming these particular Sunday school lessons were not antisemitic like some of his past ones).

Be that as it may, two individuals who were involved in the production of the audiobook – Steve Schnur and Doug Davis – were on hand to turn the lemon (Carter winning an award) into Lemonade.

Granted, they probably do not share my low opinion of Carter, given they were involved in the production of this audio recording, but to use the stage as an opportunity to bring more attention to the plight of our hostages deserves praise in my (non audio) book.

I do miss Monatana Tucker and her dress from last year though.
