Miss “Palestine” Proves Irony Is Alive and Well

A few weeks ago, I was one of the first to post about “Palestine” being represented at Miss Universe for the first time by one Nadeen Ayoub – an aesthetically pleasing woman with albeit problematic views.

Sky News (the rotten UK one, not the great Australian version) recently interviewed Ayoub, who stated she wants to show the world how palestinian Arabs are human beings like everyone else.

To me, this is an odd thing to say. I would say everyone in the world sees them as human beings; it are Jews and Israelis who many are not viewing or treating as human at all. We are booed, blacklisted, and targeted simply for existing.

So yes, Miss Ayoub, the world already acknowledges your humanity. The real test is whether you – and those applauding you – can do the same for us.

And by the way, you needn’t go to Miss Universe to make the point that palestinian Arabs are human beings. You need only go to a Coldplay concert.
