GetUp Australia Rolls Out Nasser Mashni

GetUp Australia is a progressive Australian political activist group that campaigns for progressive public-policy change in Australia in the areas of the environment, economy, human rights and democracy. In other words, they are – in the words of Member of Parliament Barnaby Joyce – “completely and utterly dopey”.

Their latest campaign does nothing to dispel that notion.

Leaving aside the fact there was no genocide in Gaza, partnering with Nasser Mashni – a man who actually celebrated an attempted genocide – is not the flex they think it is.

I also question whether Mashni’s mug has actually been appearing onLED screens on trucks, or whether this is AI. When I asked AI, it concluded that the footage displayed on the screen was produced and loaded onto an actual LED truck. Alas, sometimes AI seems to go into Mashni mode and…. lies.

But if this is real, then this is – believe it or not – a less offensive version of Mashni than the one last seen at the back of a motor vehicle.

Nasser Mashni was 22 years old when he chased a child, beat him with a wooden axe handle, shoved him into the boot of his car and drove him to an abandoned paddock where he threatened to break his legs.

Which also makes this supportive comment to the Instagram post showing the campaign also not quite the flex they think it is:
