In the wake of the Bondi Chanukah massacre, the usual suspects are predictably advancing conspiracy theories to further add salt to the wounds.
One such theory doing the rounds is that the terror attack was a “false flag” operation, designed to elicit sympathy for Israel and the Jewish people. It is the same tired conspiracy theory advanced every time Jews are murdered.
In this case, the haters allege one of the shooters – Naveed Akram – was actually an Israeli. And they have the receipts!

You get the idea.
The allegation has been spread far and wide and been seen millions of times. And none of those spreading it bothered to do any due diligence before amplifying it.
Quite simply, the screenshot is fake. And I am not basing this on the fact that “David Cohen” is the Jewish equivalent of “Joe Bloggs” or “John Smith” when it comes to generic names.
For a start, the above is not what a Facebook page looks like. This is:

Different buttons, different layout, different everything. If the “David Cohen” profile was truly screenshotted right before it was supposedly deleted this week, it should look the same as this. But it doesn’t because it was fabricated… and not very well might I add.
That’s a slam dunk right there, but if you want more proof of its fakery, let’s see. The person who created the screenshot could not spell the word “Message”:

and they gave “David Cohen” a friends list including people whose first name is “Jewish”:

Go figure.
So yes, totally fake. What’s more, we know the shooter was definitely Naveed Akram, a Muslim Man.

The sheer absurdity and shoddy execution of this “false flag” lie only underscore the deeply disturbing reality. The architects and spreaders of this conspiracy aren’t interested in uncovering truth or demanding accountability; their sole, callous purpose is to immediately and viciously delegitimize Jewish grief, excuse barbaric acts of terror, and pivot the conversation back to their obsessive hatred of Israel. They weaponize tragedy, using fabricated screenshots and easily debunked claims as their ammunition. When facts are inconvenient, they simply invent their own
Unfortunately, the lie spreads faster than the correction. The fake screenshot travels further than the facts. And the people sharing it don’t care – because it was never about truth.
