RollingStone and others are reporting that antisemitic rapper Macklemore (aka Shmeckelless) has been removed from the rest of Ed Sheeran’s stadium tour after Robert Kraft and several venues told the tour promoter that they would not allow him to perform.
This follows Macklemore using the stage to yell “Free Palestine” and promote his morally bankrupt views – causing Jewish concertgoers to feel decidedly uncomfortable.
Ed Sheeran has been silent throughout all of this, but in an Instagram post following the news of of his removal, Macklemore wrote how Sheeran agreed with the view that the rapper’s politics were “hurtful to a lot of people he spoke to” and he wouldn’t “take sides.”
Assuming this is even true, the fact that Ed Sheeran never publicly spoke out about it – and we are learning second-hand about it from the antisemitic rapper (and even then only after Sheeran was threatened with losing his venues) – still speaks volumes about Sheeran. None of it particularly flattering.
And let’s be honest: it is troubling that Ed Sheeran went with Macklemore in the first place, given his antisemitic history.
Sheeran could learn a thing or two from Pink, who spoke out loudly and proudly, damn the consequences:
Pink didn’t need any threats to find her voice, while Sheeran apparently needed the threat of pulling the plug before he found his spine. And even then, only kind of.
Ed Sheeran has a wonderful voice. It’s just a shame he fell silent when he absolutely needed to speak out.
