Yesterday I came after singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran rather hard, despite him reportedly removing Macklemore from his tour following an uproar over his ‘Free Palestine’ chants and antisemitic past.
“[Ed] told me that the words ‘Free Palestine’ and the image of the Palestinian flag were hurtful to a lot of people he spoke with. I told him that if those words were more offensive than tens of thousands of Palestinian children being killed by Israel, then there was a fundamental disconnect between where those people stood and where I stood. But he couldn’t get past his public facing, ‘I don’t take sides.’”
I came after him because:
- He invited Macklemore to open his concert to begin with (he really should have known better, given they have known each other for a long time);
- He only dismissed Macklemore after Robert Kraft intervened; and
- He is still to issue any public condemnation of Macklemore’s actions
Granted, they are allegedly friends, but doing the right thing should always take precedence.
But none of this matters to the Israel-haters and Jew-haters of the world. To them, Ed Sheeran is now persona non grata.

Which rather proves the point about trying to appease this wretched hive of scum and villainy.
Ed Sheeran has steadfastly avoided publicly taking Israel’s side. He has not condemned Macklemore. He reportedly framed his objection around people being hurt by “Free Palestine,” rather than taking issue with Macklemore’s long record of inflammatory rhetoric.
And yet none of that has earned him an ounce of goodwill. Merely deciding that your concert isn’t the appropriate venue for Macklemore’s activism is enough to get you branded a supporter of “genocide.”
Which brings me to the ultimate irony: after bending over backward to hide behind neutrality and keep everyone happy, Sheeran ended up pleasing no one. The anti-Israel mob has turned on him anyway.
Because when you sit on the fence, you end up with haemorrhoids.
