Joke of the Day

Problem is, it’s not funny.

The commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) Claudio Graziano has distributed among his troops a contingency plan in case an Israel Air Force aircraft is shot down over Lebanon, the Lebanese daily al-Akhbar reported Tuesday.

The report came amid fears that Israeli aircraft would be targeted.

According to the Lebanese newspaper, in the event that an Israeli plane is shot down, UNIFIL troops must aim to reach the pilot first, and if the pilot is captured by armed militants, they must rescue him. The plan stipulates, however, that if the pilot is captured by the Lebanese army, nothing is to be done.

A few more stipulations:

  • If the “armed militants” threaten the UNIFIL troops, the troops must run away. As fast as they can.
  • UNIFIL troops should try to refrain from saluting the “armed militants”
  • UNIFIL troops should only attempt a rescue during daylight hours, when the boogeyman is clearly out of play.

We can look at this from two different sides… either the UN isn’t doing enough, or, the UN is announcing its support (bravo!) of Israel in the Israeli-Lebanese conflict.

The reality is that the UN is a relatively impartial entity in Lebanon and for it to completely choose one side over the other, while cowardly to you and I, may go against its policy.

I suppose it’s a glass half full or half empty situation. I see it as half full… at least they’re acknowledging their desire to assist Israel.

hey Dave. It keeps telling me that I’m banned from your site and I can’t access your contact page to send a message…. :(

    Ms. Missive,

You are definitely not banned from my site. I am not sure why it is doing that, and how you were able to post a comment if that message did come up.

The same thing just happened to me, so I have disabled the ban plugin until further notice.

Thanks for the quick reply, Dave!

I’m not sure how it posted my comments either. When I submitted them, it took me to a page announcing me as a spanner and then redirected me to the Wikipedia spam site.

By putting themselves right between armed militants they are making themselves de-facto hostages of Hezbollah.

And we both know NATO knows this very well. If NATO had any intrest in peace, they’d create an actual demilitarized zone without any villages, any people, and DEFINEATELY without any hezbollah in between. Then they’d make said zone hard to cross.
