How To Read Ma’an

The following is an article from English language Palestinian news site, Ma’an News Agency, with commentary by me.

Ready?

JERUSALEM (Ma’an) — Armed (The first word in the article is “armed”, they were armed? Maybe protecting themselves against the possible violent backlash of Arab residents who don’t want to live next to Jews)  Jewish settlers (I think the preferable term is “Jewish People”) took over (legally purchased and moved into) two buildings in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan on Monday, a local group said (AKA, some guy). The Wadi Hilweh Information Center said that a group of armed (with good looks) settlers raided (casually walked into) Silwan at 2 a.m. and occupied (moved into) two buildings consisting of 10 apartments (9).

The (previous) owners of the buildings, Salah al-Rajabi and Imran al-Qawasmi, sold the properties to a Palestinian man identified as Shams al-Din al-Qawasmi, who in turn sold the buildings to Jewish settler groups, the center said. (Oh that guy is dead meat now)

The previous Palestinian tenants left the buildings over four months ago. (so they “raided” and “occupied” an empty home, that was legally purchased, but some will still claim the previous inhabitants were forced into homelessness)

There are now four settlement outposts (their word for Jews) in the heart of the Palestinian (predominantly Arab) neighborhood of Silwan, the center said, increasing fears of a gradual Jewish takeover of the strategic area (population of Silwan ? 20,000 Arabs, it will be a lot more gradual than you think)

The settler news site (in fairness, Ma’an is the “terrorist news site”) Arutz Sheva quoted Jerusalem Councilman Arieh King as saying: “This morning the Jewish population in the Yemenite Village doubled.” (from 1 to 2)

He encouraged further Jewish settlement of the area. (This shouldn’t be a problem for non-xenophobes)

In September, settlers occupied 23 houses in Silwan and forcibly evicted the residents of an apartment. (Like when I bought some milk and forcibly took it out of the store)

East Jerusalem is internationally recognized as Palestinian territory (some international people feel this way), but Israel occupied it in 1967 and later annexed it in a move never considered legitimate abroad. (as opposed to when Jordan occupied, and exiled Jews from it for exactly 18 years and didn’t want any claim to it which was totally legit abroad).

More than 500,000 Israeli settlers live in settlements across the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, in contravention of international law. (a law which we have yet to see)

Look… If I were in the real estate market, and looking for a safe home for my family, I would personally choose a neighbourhood where I’d be accepted among my neighbours. I fear the Jews who live here will be harassed or even worse. And when the news that comes out presents these people who were forced to move secretly in the night to avoid attack as a “gradual threat of Jewish takeover”, well it doesn’t help. Population changes are natural. Remember when Harlem was no longer black? Who cares? It’s 2 freaking buildings. Aren’t we celebrating multiculturalism? Or is it only “apartheid” when vilifying Jews?
As far as I see it, someone a little different wants to move in and live among people of other cultures. And the world news perpetuates the absurdity that this act is against international law, colonial behaviour and the freakin’ cause of ISIS. This is the only part of the world where something like this is a problem, and Jews are the only people in the world who are considered a problem because of this.
That’s what we call, ANTI-SEMITISM.
