Yesterday was the 47th anniversary of Golda Meir becoming Israeli Prime Minister after Levi Eshkol’s sudden death in February 1969.
Here is an interview with her from 1970. Watching this, I can’t help thinking
- What a woman
- What a leader
- I forgot she had such an “American” accent
- The more things change, the more they stay the same
The whole thing is fascinating as Golda navigates through a hostile interview. There are many highlights but pay special attention at around 18:05, when the hostile interviewer admits something. As well as what Golda says from 19:00 about palestinians.
Scrap that. The ENTIRE thing is incredible.
How many civilians did Britain kill in WW2?

I saw her grave on Mt. Herzl last September. It is also interesting that the hostile tone of the questions long pre-dated Netanyahu, Sharon, Shamir and Begin. This is the Labour Party Israel which people such as Obama all claim to have loved.
“Is this where history begins?”
Wow! Amazing, wonderful. I wish someone of her stature and brilliance were around today.
I met her once in 1972, for a Labour leader she was great
