Know Your History: Muslim Snipers From Temple Mount (NY Times Oct 20, 1938)

series where I bring to you news from the archives and historical documents to debunk common misconceptions about the Middle East conflict.

The tensions we are seeing with the Temple Mount are not new. One such example of an earlier example is from 1938, where Muslim snipers used the so-called sanctity of “Haram esh-Sharif” to shoot at Jews.

The New York Times covered it, and as usual a look at their reporting of the time is illuminating.

Note: I cannot provide a link to the full article since it is only available to those who have purchased a NY Times subscription. But I have provided screenshots below. As usual, click on the screenshots to enlarge.

Note in particular the admission this site was ours from King David’s time, and the exploitation of it by the Muslims

  1. The British took severe measures to crush Arab violence… Israel has never gone that far in the face of decades of Arab terrorism.

When you consider anti-Israel protests around the Muslim World, this stands out.

During this Intifada of 1936-39, the British sent in a rising star in their ranks, Orde Wingate, to gather intelligence. They didn’t know that Wingate was an ardent Zionist. After arrival, he approached the Haganah about recruiting their best and brightest for a special operations unit to help defeat the uprising. His Night Squads became the progenitor of the Navy Seals and the Green Berets, routing the enemy in the middle of the night. Members of the squads included Moshe Dayan and Yigal Alon. During World War II, Wingate took his innovative strategies to Burma and glory. In Israel, a town, a sports training complex and a rehab center for wounded soldiers are named for him.

  3. Every Muslim country, kills hundreds of ‘terrorists’ a day. They also control the media reporting on it. And the media always complies.

  4. In 1967 the Temple Mount especially their mosques was so packed with ammunition and heavy weaponry that it took almost 2 weeks of hard work to remove the hundreds of tons of munitions and weapons.
