US Military Brainstorming

You have to hand it to the US military. They think “outside of the box.”

The US military rejected a 1994 proposal to develop an “aphrodisiac” to spur homosexual activity among enemy troops but is hard at work on other less-than-lethal weapons, defence officials said today.

The idea of fostering homosexuality among the enemy figured in a declassified six-year, $7.5 million request from a laboratory at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio for funding of non-lethal chemical weapon research.

The proposal, disclosed in response to a Freedom of Information request, called for developing chemicals affecting human behaviour “so that discipline and morale in enemy units is adversely affected“.

“One distasteful but completely non-lethal example would be strong aphrodisiacs, especially if the chemical also caused homosexual behaviour,” said the document, obtained by the Sunshine Project. The watchdog group posted the partly blacked-out, three-page document on its website.

I don’t understand how this would adversely affect discipline and morale. Are they implying that the soldiers would be too busy getting it on to fight? I don’t think it would work this way. A more likely scenario would be this:

Soldier 1: I refuse to go out to fight dressed in this uniform. Khaki? I mean it just clashes with my other outfits.

Soldier 2: I’m with you. Not to mention the “helmet hair”.

Soldier 1: Oh, the insanity of it all…

And here is another interesting idea:

The Air Force Research Laboratory also suggested using chemicals that could be sprayed on enemy positions to attract stinging and biting bugs, rodents and larger animals.

I can just imagine it now..

Soldier 1: Watch out! Large gerbil at seven o’clock.

Soldier 2: Owwwww! I’ve been bit..

And my personal favorite..

Another idea involved creating “severe and lasting halitosis” to help sniff out fighters trying to blend with civilians.

Just what is needed to combat those drugged-out enemy zombie killer soldiers.
