Israeli Labor party chairman – Amir Peretz – has met with PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas, in an effort to form a coalition with what he termed “moderate voices in the Arab world.”
*sigh*
Don’t get me wrong. It sounds like a noble idea. It is just that we have been down this path so many times before. Not only that, but characterizing Abbas as a moderate just because he wears a tie and does not seem as hardline as Hamas, is misleading. After all, the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, which are affiliated with Abbas’ Fatah, are still doing as they please.
Speaking of the Peretz-Abbas meeting, I assume it was conducted in English. If so, then I’m even more doubtful as to how much they can accomplish.
