This almost got lost in the swarm of palestinian reactions to Newt Gingrich’s comments on the notion of a palestinian people, but look at to what PA official Saeb “Massacre” Erekat attributes violence in the Middle East.
“What is the cause of violence, war in this region? Denial, denying people their religion, their existence, and now he is denying our existence,” said Erekat, for years a leading figure in peace talks aimed at the creation of a Palestinian state alongside Israel.
Of course, Erekat was referring to the palestinians, but his point is entirely valid. The palestinians – including the PA – deny there is a Jewish connection to the land of Israel and refuse to recognize Israel as a Jewish state. And it is not just the palestinians. All of our neighbors believe the entirety of this land belongs to the Muslims, and deny the Jewish people’s historical, religious and emotional connection to the land.
