Last night I took my son to another U21 EURO game – Germany Vs. The Netherlands, this one in the fabulous new Moshava Stadium in Petah Tikva.
Here is the western grandstand before it filled up:
And here it is a little more full during the game:
The game was a tense 3-2 win to The Netherlands, but the biggest drama to me was: how are they going to spell Petach Tikva?
This large town to the East of Tel Aviv is our version of “Gaddafi”. Sample 10 signs, and you’re likely to get 10 different spellings of the name. Some variations include:
Petah Tikva
PetahTikvah
Petach Tikvah
Petah Tiqwa
Petach Tikqwa
etc. etc. ad nauseum
Seems that UEFA went with “Petach Tikva” which is my personal preference, so kudos to them!
