Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown – Jerusalem

Anthony Bourdain, host of CNN’s culinary adventure show, “Parts Unknown”, recently filmed an episode in Israel, an episode which (not surprisingly) triggered much discussion.

Here’s the episode so now you can form your own conclusion about his objectivity.

    1. Wasn’t the episode called “Parts Unknown – Jerusalem”? And isn’t Jerusalem a city in Israel? He spent, what, 10 minutes in Jerusalem – mainly in the muslim quarter – discussing the disputed origin of falafel.

The rest of the show was reserved for tsk-tsk-ing about the evil apartheid wall and the “brutal occupation”. The only fact that was told straight was: “sure, suicide/homicide bombings have declined since the wall went up …”, but even that was a throwaway line, incidental to lamenting the “open air prison” the palestinians are “forced” to live in.

What food did that Palestinian children’s-theater guy cook? What traditional Arab delicacies did the bizarre Palestinian “speed sisters” present for Bourdain’s dining pleasure? I thought this was a show about local cuisine and culture.

I was SO looking forward to this episode, and it did nothing but anger and disappoint. He said about Israel, “I don’t know what to think about it”. Well, maybe if he actually WENT to Israel, he’d have a better idea.

      1. … and the thing that infuriated me the most was that Jerusalem is probably the world’s most history-rich, and fascinating city. Whenever I visit Jerusalem, I feel like there are not enough lifetimes to take it all in. Bourdain could have put politics aside and done 10 episodes on the diversity of the city’s cuisine alone. The fact that he dismissed it in favour of the Anti-Israel rantings of a bunch of Gazans is almost comical in its obvious agenda.

        Ugh.

          Could not agree more

  1. Well, the only thing Bourdain got right is “Parts Unknown” since Jerusalem isn’t in Gaza. And never will be. It would help to erect a wall around his massive propaganda piece to contain the lies and and pointed view.

Feed this guy some fish tomorrow. It is good for the brain, yanno.
