More On Lisa Kudrow’s Son’s Drive-By Barmitzvah

Over 6 months ago, I posted about Lisa Kidrow’s son’s “drive-by” bar mitzvah.

Now she has recounted the story on Conan.

I can’t quite work out whether I found the story hilarious or sad.

  1. She was able to show why Judaism is dying in America in just 2:25, while American “Jewish” orgs are still spending millions of dollars and can’t give us an actual answer.

    1. it isnt dying any more than it has been throughout history…in fact, it is stronger

i no longer give a crap about the semi jew

they will all be gone and the observant will be in the majority

There’s something charming and quaint about that. In fact that’s what a Bnai Mitzvah always was until about 80 years ago in America when it became this monstrous thing.

    1. When it became a potlatch. A means of demonstrating affluence; disconnected from its actual significance. Turning the sudat mtzvah into the thing itself.
The whole idea that one is “given” a bar mitzvah, or was “bar mitzvah’d” misses the point entirely. One becomes bar/bat mitvah.

The mind boggles. I imagined a drive by Bar Mitzva where the young man was paraded on a float holding a Sefer Torah and the guests all dipped their headlights as he drove by and honked their horns in a Mazal Tov salute.
