Media Bias of The Day: The Times They Are A-Changin’ Edition
Today’s edition of The Times reported on developments regarding a proposed, controversial “nation state law” (which should be the subject of a post in itself). This is how they did so.
Spot the particularly disconcerting part?
If you said “What on earth does a photo of destruction in Gaza have to do with this proposed law?”, you would be correct. The two are about as related as, say, Ferguson and Israel. Then again, when you are trying to portray Israel as a villain, relevance is not such an issue.
Update: Success! My friend Melvyn Mildiner, who spotted this shameful example of media bias, emailed the editor, tweeted the relevant parties, and submitted an official complaint to the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) via The Times’ own process. He just received the following response:
Dear Mr Mildiner,
Thank you for your email to The Times. The picture in question has been removed from our iPad edition.
Yours sincerely,
Rose Wild,
Feedback editor,
The Times
Sure enough, they changed the photo.
