new series where I bring to you news from the newspaper archives to debunk common misconceptions about the Middle East conflict.

The world was very different in 1967. Some of Israel’s staunchest supporters were French leftists – including Jean-Paul Sartre – who opposed the Vietnam War.

The French and the Left in general have certainly lost their way since then, siding with those who are the antithesis of everything in which they believe.

  1. Ever since the Dreyfus affair, it has been clear that many of the French left (the Frebch in general) struggle between their socialist ideals (Liberty, Fraternitaire, Egalitaire) and their ingrained antisemitism. For example, they see no irony in the fact that the veil is banned in France, while many Muslim women in Israel are free to wear a hijab or a full burka, but to the French it’s Israel that is racist, not France.
