It is a known thing that if you are at a conference held by Ha’aretz, you’ll be hard pressed to find an Israeli flag. Or at least one that wasn’t removed.
A pic of another Israeli flag because there are certain things I won’t show on here
Israel’s social media was atwitter on Sunday after controversial performance artist Ariel Bronz went onstage at a cultural conference and inserted an Israeli flag into his backside.
Bronz, during his performance at an event hosted by Haaretz newspaper at the Tel Aviv Museum, proceeded to pelt audience members with oranges as part of his act.
After some spectators booed and threw the oranges back at Bronz, who was clad in high heels and a short pink skirt, organizers requested that he leave the stage.
At that point, Bronz turned his back to the audience and proceeded to insert a small Israeli flag on a stick.
Ushers rushed to remove him from the stage as he strutted about with the flag still deeply embedded.
The event was also attended by Culture and Sport Minister Miri Regev, although she had already left the auditorium before Bronz’s performance.
After learning of the incident Regev said she will investigate the possibility of prosecuting Bronz.
“I instructed the director general of my ministry to examine the legal aspects of this shocking act and prosecute its perpetrator,” she wrote on her Facebook page.
Bronz told Army Radio that he had not planned the flag prank in advance, but acted in the heat of the moment as a protest against the “gagging of mouths in the country.”
I feel like gagging just reading this. If only he’d set fire to the flag.
