Uman Plaza Refuses To Take Bookings From Jews (Updated)

Every year, tens of thousands of Jews make a pilgrimage to Uman, a central Ukrainian city where Rabbi Nachman of Breslov was buried after his death in 1810. The main pilgrimage is every Rosh Hashana, when tens of thousands of Hasidim flock to the city.

Despite the influx of Jews being good for the Uman economy, there is the inevitable antisemitism, which has even manifested itself in violence.

I say this all as an introduction to a tip we received regarding an Israeli who tried to book at the Uman Plaza, and received this message.

Sorry, but we do not accomodated (sic) Jews.

As of the time of this post, the Bookings.com page suggests the hotel isn’t taking reservations. Not sure whether that is because they have no vacancies, or are just waiting until the Jews stop bothering them.

It is absolutely horrific that this kind of blatant antisemitism is making a reappearance in Europe.

Or perhaps it never went away.

Update: Booking.com have responded to a tweet of mine.
