As Israel continues to battle the fires sweeping the country – most of which were started by palestinian arsonists, a young victim of a fire has emerged.
Palestinian child dies in Israel wildfire
A two-year-old Palestinian boy has died after his house caught on fire in the town of Beitin in Ramallah as authorities investigate the cause.
The boy’s death comes as Israeli firefighters kept battling the flames in wooded hills around Jerusalem and in northern areas on Friday, with support from Palestinian firemen and emergency teams from Greece, Cyprus, Croatia, Italy, Russia and Turkey.
While the headline seems to suggest his house caught on fire as part of the fires blazing throughout Israel, the words “authorities investigate the cause” might suggest otherwise. And sure enough, Ma’an News has a different take.
A two-and-a-half year old Palestinian child was burned to death in a house fire that broke out in the village of Beitin in the occupied West Bank district of Ramallah on Friday.
According to the Palestinian Civil Defense, Mahmoud Maamoun Abdulhafeth Arrar was killed after a fire was caused by what the civil defense suspects was a heater being used in the house.
Palestinian Civil Defense crews rushed to the home after receiving reports from locals that one of the village’s houses was on fire. Crews distinguished the fire, but were unable to rescue the child.
While the civil defense announced that investigations were ongoing regarding the incident, they called upon residents to take safety precautions while using heating systems during the winter.
Incidentally, I do not recall seeing any of the people celebrating the fires in Israel jumping for joy over this.
So as fires blaze across Israel – putting palestinian town and villages at risk as well (with the PA even helping in the firefighting efforts) – and many palestinians suspected of arson have already been detained, the Palestinian Civil Defense’s advise to avoid their children dying in fires is “take safety precautions while using heating systems during the winter”.
You can’t make this stuff up.
How about stop starting fires to spite Israelis because those same fires could end up burning us and our houses?
And sure enough, a man from the same village as the child is one of the suspected arsonists.
The spokesperson did not identify the Palestinian detained in Ramallah, however, locals told Ma’an that Sayel Darwish Jarabaa, 60, was detained from the Beitin village in northern Ramallah late Thursday for allegedly attempting to start a fire.
