Can You Guess the Most Popular Male Baby Name In Israel This Past Year?

If you guess Muhammad, well done (and you probably understood why I was asking the question to begin with!)

The Population and Immigration Authority released on Sunday the most popular names chosen for babies born in Israel over the past Jewish year of 5777. The list includes both Jewish and non-Jewish names.

Muhammad was the most popular male name, followed by Yosef/Yussuf, Dovid, Daniel, Udi, Omer, Eitan, Ariel, Noam, and Adam.

Another genocide and ethnic cleansing fail!

  1. I tried to find some details about this. I didn’t easily find details about the latest statistics, but I did find a detailed article from two years ago when Muhamad was also the #1 boy’s name. The poll lumped Muhamad and Achmed together, with 1/5 of Muslim Israeli boys being given one of these names. This comes out to about 4% of the overall Israeli population. Machmoud adds another 2% roughly.
So it’s less about the flourishing Muslim population and more about a conformity of tastes for boys’ names in Muslim communities.
It is nevertheless that true that the claims of genocide and ethnic cleansing are false, despicable libels.
