In the spirit of inventing things, the palestinians have invented Flag Day..to commemorate hoisting their flag at the UN two years ago.
Palestinians celebrated on Saturday Flag Day marking two years since the hoisting of the Palestinian flag at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who attended the flag hoisting ceremony at the time, has declared September 30 of every year as Palestinian Flag Day.
The flag was raised for the first time at the UN headquarters alongside flags of 193 other member states after the UN General Assembly voted 119 in favor to eight opposed and 45 abstentions to allow hoisting the flag at the UN building, making it the first time a flag of a non-member state is raised there.
Palestine became a non-member state on 29 November 2012.
