You’ve probably heard by now how Gal Gadot has been cast as Cleopatra – and how haters have reacted to the news.
Perhaps the most publicized reaction is by Israel-hating journalist Sameera Khan, who tweeted this
As many people rightly responded, Cleopatra was not Arab. She was of Macedonian Greek ancestry.
Heck, this is how she was depicted in a posthumously painted portrait from Roman Herculaneum, Italy, 1st century AD.
But to engage in such an intellectual argument is missing the point. Khan gives away her entire beef with the casting with these words
Your country steals Arab land & you’re stealing their movie roles… smh.
Khan hates Gal because Gal is a proud Israeli. And for all I know, it could be because she is Jewish.
I mean, calling Gal bland looking? I guess “bland” is the opposite of “plastic”, Sameera?
Let’s not forget how Gal was subject to body shaming attacks when cast as Wonder Woman. The difference here are the attacks are purely out of Israel-hatred and Jew-hatred.
Meanwhile, Khan also tweeted this
Shall I tell her or do you want to?
