No, Quentin Tarantino Did Not Vote in the Israeli Elections

The following photo of Quentin Tarantino ostensibly voting was doing the rounds yesterday, during our Israeli elections:

Like so much on social media, it was quickly passed off as true. Because people wanted to believe it.

I held back knowing that although Quentin Tarantino does spend time in Israel since he married an Israeli, it seemed unlikely he would just turn up and vote like this. There were also other clues: his jacket on the oppressively hot day that was yesterday, as well as the absence of any mask, which seemed unlikely here, even for a badass like him.

Mako explains that according to section 5 of the Citizenship Law, a person who is not a Jew can go through the process of obtaining Israeli citizenship, but must reside at least three to five years before submitting the application in Israel. Tarantino still does not meet the criteria and it is not at all clear whether he wants to be a citizen of the country at all.

Google reverse image search reveals that the real photo was taken at Cannes in 2019, during the screening of his film “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”

Had Tarantino voted, I would hope Israel-hater Michael Moore would not influence his choice.

The director Michael Moore has revealed that Quentin Tarantino only voted after watching the documentary Fahrenheit 9/11. Speaking at the Toronto film festival – where his new film, Where To Invade Next, is the subject of a bidding war – Moore said Tarantino approached him at a celebratory supper in Cannes, where the jury Tarantino chaired had awarded Moore’s movie the Palme d’Or in 2004.

“He said: ‘I have not only never voted, I’ve never even registered,’” recalled Moore. “‘But when I get back to LA I’m voting from now on.’
