Twitter has suspended GnasherJew, an anonymous account that was a leading source of allegations of antisemitism against the UK Labour Party and its then leader Jeremy Corbyn during the 2019 general election.
While the official reason for its suspension is not known, one can easily surmise that it was mass reported by Jew-haters. This, however, does not explain why Twitter agreed to suspend it. How did it supposedly contravene their guidelines? And why does Twitter leave up the accounts of actual antisemites and racists, despite their contravention of the guidelines?
I have long been beating the drum of the importance of being the actual owner of the information you disseminate. This is one of the reasons I continue with this blog*; sure, I have social media accounts, but I more use those just to disseminate my blog posts. At the end of the day, I own this website and no-one can take it away from me. My social media accounts could be gone in the blink of an eyelid.
Many of you spend hours on Twitter and Facebook, fighting the good fight. While I applaud you, I strongly suggest you not rely on social media. Open up a blog. And if that is too difficult, you can submit a reader post on here, assuming you are a decent writer and agree with my mantra of not solely preaching to the choir.
Because the writing’s on the wall.
*another main reason is the fact my blog posts are indexed by Google, and in many cases, highly ranked on certain keywords.
