Haters Urge Boycott of La Casa De Papel (Money Heist) After Actors Praise Israel

A few days ago, Israel’s Channel 12 interviewed some of the stars of hit Netflix show La Casa De Papel (Money Heist). In the interview, the actors had nothing but praise for Israel, and expressed their desire to visit.

(You can see the interview below; while most of it Spanish, there are enough parts in English to understand the stars heart Israel)

Palestinian seething has ensued:

Yesterday, Friday, with the start of the presentation of the first part of the fifth and final season of the series “The Professor” La Casa De Papel, on the “Netflix” network, the Israeli channel broadcast 12 interviews with the heroes of the work.

The interview sparked a wave of anger across social networking sites in the Arab world, due to some actors praising the occupying state, and expressing their admiration for the Israeli series “Fauda”, which is shown by “Netflix”, and it promotes the Israeli security novel to justify its continued attacks on the Palestinians.

In the interview, actor Darko Peric, who plays Helsinki in the series, said that his previous visit to the occupied territories “was an extraordinary experience, and I hope to come back to Israel again. I know we have a lot of fans here, and they are wonderful people.”

Hovik Kochkarian, who plays Bogota, expressed his admiration for the series “Fauda”, adding Enrique Arce, who plays Arturo: “I must say that Israel is among the countries that I definitely plan to visit… I have a friend from Tel Aviv. I really I want to come. I’ve heard wonderful things about Israel.”

As the interview spread, some tweeters called for a boycott of the series, in response to this “admiration” for the occupation state.

In addition:

The hashtag #BoycottLaCasaDePapel has become widespread since.

The campaign also urged people to lower the show’s rating on IMDB (Internet Movie Database) in an effort to demote its ranking and send a clear message against this act of disrespectful dismissal of the Palestinian people’s struggle.

More here.

I wonder what took these haters so long. Jaime Lorente, one of the show’s stars, came to Tel Aviv a few years ago and praised Israel back then.

“It’s crazy to see the reactions all over the world and in Israel. It’s really emotional for me to share these moments with you. I’m happy I was given the privilege to come here and to get to know your warm people, your culture and your county and I hope to come back here soon,” then added in Hebrew/Arabic, “Yalla, sababa.”

“When they talked to me about going to Israel, I agreed right away. I had heard a lot about this amazing country and how special it is and about the Tel Aviv nightlife and the great food. I’d love recommendations about where to eat hummus and falafel.”

Meanwhile, I wonder whether boycotting the show means the palestinian Arabs will now stop wearing costumes from the show when engaged in terror.
