Haters Gloat Over Israelis Arrested in Dubai Over Murder of Another Israeli. Except…

The victim Gasan Shamsiya

Yesterday it was announced the police had arrested a number of “Israeli nationals” after they had allegedly killed another Israeli.

Some haters could hardly hide their glee:

Except it turns out the murderers and the victim were all Israeli Arabs. The victim – Gasan Shamsiya from Acre – reportedly fled to Dubai as a result of a dispute between two families in Israel, but members of rival families were waiting for him there and murdered him.

This is not the first time Arab Israelis who committed crimes in Dubai were assumed to be Jewish Israelis. Last year, the palestinian Paltoday website went out of their way to make out that three Israelis arrested in Dubai for allegedly stealing luxury goods were Jewish (at least one, if not all, of the alleged thieves were Israeli Arabs). And a few months later, when Israeli Arab woman Fidaa Kiwan was sentenced to death in the UAE for drug smuggling, the mainstream media identified her as an Israeli woman. Yet as I mentioned at the time:

This is not always the case with the mainstream media. For instance, when Israeli-Arab Aiia Maasarwe was murdered in Australia a few years ago, the Guardian and Daily Mail both referred to as a “Palestinian Arab of Israeli citizenship,” ABC Australia referred to her as a “Palestinian citizen of Israel,” and 7 News Australia referred to her as a “Palestinian-Israeli.” You may also recall, then-journalist Jennine Khalik made a big deal about stressing she was actually a “Palestinian.”

In this case of Fidaa Kiwan, almost none of the mainstream media is giving her this designation.

These incidences show how the haters and the mainstream media seem to love paint Israelis engaged in crimes or bad behavior as being Jewish, even when they are not.

Meanwhile, as we will no doubt see as we saw in the case of Fidaa Kiwan, the Israeli government will assist the family of the Arab victim, as well as the Arab perpetrators, since they are considered to be fully fledged Israeli citizens.
