Israel’s Kan News is reporting that the United States Department of Transportation has opened an investigation against El Al following a complaint of prohibited discrimination against Noor Fawaz, who you may recall uploaded a Twitter rant against El Al security for the treatment she received, claiming it is all because she is “Palestinian.”
“The ministry is committed to protecting the right of passengers to fly free from any type of improper discrimination,” said officials at the Department of Transportation. They also added that the ministry “investigates any claim of discrimination received against an airline, and is now investigating the complaints against El Al”.
For their part, El Al has responded:
“An inquiry was received from the Department of Transportation of the United States following a complaint filed by the passenger. El-Al is checking the details of the case with the Aviation Security Division, and will respond to the Ministry of Transportation’s inquiry in an orderly manner. During the inspection of the passenger’s luggage, several warnings were received from technological measures that required a continuation clarification. The operations were carried out in accordance with the security procedures and the instructions of the authorized parties. During the security check process, we acted quickly to transfer the passenger to an alternative flight to Israel.”
I do hope this backfires in her face, and El Al provides the Department of Transportation with her tweets in support of terrorism (or as she calls it, “resistance” and “intifada”) – and any other proof they may have – which show why El Al would need to take extra precautions with her, and not just because she identifies as “palestinian.”
