Anti-Israel Student Supposedly On 5-Week Long Hunger Strike Looks a Picture of Health

Middle East Eye and some other anti-Israel media outlets are reporting that a McGill University student on an indefinite hunger strike for the past 34 days was admitted to hospital after fainting on Saturday:

Rania Amine, an undergraduate student at McGill, who began an indefinite hunger strike on 19 February, is understood to be stable and under observation. MEE was scheduled to speak with Amine on Saturday before she was admitted to hospital.

Organisers told MEE that Amine went to the hospital for IV fluids.

Upon receiving the IV fluids, Amine fainted and doctors advised she be hospitalised. The students declined to disclose the name of the hospital for Amine’s safety.

Amine is one of two students currently on an indefinite hunger strike to demand that the university both divest from defense companies directly or indirectly supporting the Israeli military as well as end its associations with four Israeli universities.

Being on a hunger strike for 34 days sounds pretty serious – certainly better than the 12-hours some of her fellow haters managed – and I’d expect her to look really emaciated. Yet in an interview she conducted the day before her hospitalization, she looks rather, um, not emaciated:

I call BS; if she is hunger striking, then she is doing it Marwan Barghouti style.

I suspect the reason “the students declined to disclose the name of the hospital” was not “for Amine’s safety” but because Amine was not actually admitted to hospital.
