Israellycool and Unapologetic: How David Lange Fights the Info War

A website called MOTSource.com recently interviewed me to gain more of an understanding of my work, strategy, and thoughts on certain geopolitical issues.

The interview was posted to X, but I have reproduced it here for your convenience.

advocacy impact

In the ever-evolving landscape of digital media, few voices have been as impactful in the realm of Israel advocacy as David Lange. A law school graduate who transitioned from careers in the oil and hi-tech industries, Lange has dedicated himself fully to the defense of Israel in the information war. As the founder of Israellycool, one of the largest English-language pro-Israel blogs, he has spent over two decades countering misinformation, debunking libels, and exposing antisemitic narratives that seek to undermine the Jewish state.

A Distinct Voice from Perth, Australia

Speaking with Lange, it’s easy to see why he has developed such a dedicated following. Originally from Perth, Australia, he has a distinct Australian accent that immediately stands out. He is affable, friendly, and humble, making him an engaging conversationalist. Despite his deep knowledge and the serious nature of his work, he doesn’t carry himself with the weight of self-importance. Instead, he speaks with an approachable warmth and a good-natured humor that makes even complex topics feel accessible. His passion for his mission is evident, but he remains modest about his achievements.

From Australia to Israel: A Journey of Passion

Lange made aliyah from Australia in 2000, driven by a deep connection to Israel and its people. What began as a simple blog in 2003 soon transformed into an influential platform with a mission beyond just news aggregation. Today, Israellycool is not only a go-to source for pro-Israel content but also a nonprofit organization, reflecting Lange’s commitment to making a tangible impact beyond the digital realm.

A Unique Approach to Israel Advocacy

While many pro-Israel platforms focus on reinforcing support within existing circles, Lange has made it his mission to reach those outside the “echo chamber.” He acknowledges that the majority of Israel advocacy efforts often preach to the choir, with little influence beyond those already sympathetic to the cause. His approach is different: by employing satire, humor, and sharp analysis, he seeks to engage audiences who might otherwise dismiss pro-Israel narratives.

“One of the things that I think is endemic to pro-Israel advocacy is that 95% of it is preaching to the choir,” Lange explained. “I’ve chosen to take on the challenge of influencing people who aren’t necessarily pro-Israel. It’s not just about substance; it’s about form. Humor and sarcasm work in a way that dry facts don’t.”

His methods have proven effective. Over the years, he has documented numerous cases where former critics of Israel have engaged with his content, leading to a shift in their perspectives. His ability to blend entertainment with information has given Israellycool a distinct voice that resonates beyond the typical advocacy sphere.

Confronting Antisemitism Head-On

Lange is no stranger to controversy. His work has often placed him in the crosshairs of some of the most vocal anti-Israel activists. One of his most notable interactions was with Roger Waters, the former Pink Floyd frontman and a prominent supporter of the BDS movement. Waters once publicly dismissed Israellycool as an “obscure racist site,” an attack that Lange wears as a badge of honor.

“I love getting up the noses of bad people,” Lange said, laughing. “Roger Waters tried to bully Alan Parsons into canceling his tour in Israel. Parsons stood his ground and even linked to my article in his response. That’s when Waters lost it and called Israellycool an obscure racist site. That’s a win in my book.”

Lange’s persistent efforts to expose Waters’ antisemitism have not gone unnoticed. Even David Gilmour, Waters’ former Pink Floyd bandmate, has followed Israellycool on social media—one of only 60 accounts he follows.

“I don’t know if that means he’s a fan, but hey, I’ll take it!” Lange joked.

Israel’s Geopolitical Challenges: Lange’s Perspective

Beyond media advocacy, Lange has keen insights into Israel’s geopolitical challenges. When asked about former President Donald Trump’s proposed plan for Gaza, Lange viewed it as a strategic shift.

“A lot of people think it sounded crazy, but the definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over again. Trump’s plan represents a paradigm shift. He’s sending a message that terrorism isn’t going to pay. And it’s not as detailed as people think—he never said anything about forced deportations,” Lange noted. “Polls before October 7 showed that nearly 44% of young Gazans wanted to leave. If given the opportunity, that could weaken Hamas significantly.”

On the topic of Syria, Lange acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the new leadership following the removal of Bashar al-Assad’s regime-aligned forces.

“It’s still a bit unknown, but what we do know is that the new government isn’t aligned with Iran, which is a positive development,” he explained. “That weakens Hezbollah’s supply chain. But in this neighborhood, you can never take anything for granted. It’s a wait-and-see approach.”

Regarding Iran, Lange emphasized a multi-pronged strategy.

“I don’t think Trump would want Israel to just bomb Iran’s nuclear facilities outright. He’s a negotiator. He’d probably first strangle them with sanctions, while we support opposition movements within Iran. I believe Israel is already fostering relationships with pro-Israel Iranians. The Iranian people aren’t our enemy—the regime is.”

A Resource for Pro-Israel Advocacy

Beyond its news coverage and commentary, Israellycool serves as a valuable archive of documented misinformation, historical revisionism, and media bias against Israel. With over 25,000 posts spanning more than 20 years, the website has become a vital resource for those seeking factual rebuttals to false narratives. The blog’s extensive catalog allows supporters of Israel to access ready-made, well-researched arguments to counter anti-Israel rhetoric on social media and in public discourse.

“What I’ve noticed is that people access old Israellycool posts and use them as ammunition in online debates,” Lange said. “I take pride in that. I want to continue providing tools that people can use to defend Israel.”

Looking to the Future

Despite the challenges, Lange remains dedicated to his mission. His recent efforts have focused on strengthening Israellycool as a nonprofit entity, ensuring its sustainability and expanding its reach. With the rise of digital warfare and the increasing presence of misinformation, his work has never been more crucial. He continues to refine strategies for engaging new audiences, emphasizing the importance of humor and storytelling in advocacy efforts.

When asked about his ultimate goal, Lange’s answer was clear:

“Every person I can influence, even just a little, is like changing the world in some way. That’s what keeps me going.”
