Israel Actually Handled The Interception of Greta’s ‘Aid’ Ship Well

Yesterday I was asked by The Press Service of Israel (TPS-IL) what I felt Israel should do about the so-called ‘aid’ ship to Gaza.

David Lange, Executive Director of Israellycool Israel Advocacy, who researched the social media backgrounds of all those on board, finding that many are supporters of terror groups, told TPS-IL he would like to see Israel at least searching the ship before it gets to Gaza, to ensure no weapons are on board.

He said: “Because we have these people who have shown they support Hamas and Hezbollah, we should at least stop the ship and check for weapons, as they have shown clear hatred for Israel.”

Other than that, he said it doesn’t ‘bother’ him if they wish to enter Gaza, but echoing Hirsch’s sentiments that the voyage is more about a PR attack on Israel than aid for Gaza, he said: “Its performative.

“They want to embarrass Israel, and by stopping them, in a way, we’re playing into their narrative, but we do need to make sure weapons don’t get through to the strip, which is a high probability.

“In principle, I don’t mind them going there, it doesn’t bother me, but they are trying to push us into a corner. Its a PR stunt.

“It’s not just the sentiments of some of those on board, but in the past, there have been some violent people on board boats travelling to Gaza.”

Israel had other ideas, boarding the ship, with everyone on board – including Goblin Greta – reportedly arrested, and the military’s naval unit, Shayetet 13, taking the ship to the Port of Ashdod. And dare I say it, we handled it ok from a PR point of view, showing images of the passengers being well treated.

Goblin Greta and gang were banking on some heavy-handed IDF actions, which they could somehow use to buttress their false claims we are “‘genociding” the palestinian Arabs. Instead, we came prepared, ensuring a calm atmosphere.

I mean look at Greta’s goofy smile. If only she loved the palestinian Arabs like she seems to love that sandwich (wrapped in plastic – a no-no for a climate activist one would have thought!) – then she’d be actively opposing Hamas.

These were not people actually afraid of what the IDF would do because at the end of the day, they probably do understand we don’t just harm people for shits’n’giggles, despite what they say publicly. And it shows from these images.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry released the following statement:

The “selfie yacht” of the “celebrities” is safely making its way to the shores of Israel. The passengers are expected to return to their home countries.

While Greta and others attempted to stage a media provocation whose sole purpose was to gain publicity — and which included less than a single truckload of aid — more than 1,200 aid trucks have entered Gaza from Israel within the past two weeks, and in addition, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation has distributed close to 11 million meals directly to civilians in Gaza.

There are ways to deliver aid to the Gaza Strip — they do not involve Instagram selfies. The tiny amount of aid that was on the yacht and not consumed by the “celebrities” will be transferred to Gaza through real humanitarian channels.

This is also effective; mockingly referring to them as a “selfie yacht”, and mentioning how little aid was actually on board in comparison to what Israel is allowing in. Israel seems to be learning from past mistakes in more effectively handling these situations.

But I saved the best part for last.

Defense Minister Israel Katz had also instructed the IDF to show Thunberg and the rest of the Madleen passengers footage from Hamas’s October 7 attacks.

“It is appropriate that antisemitic Greta and her fellow Hamas supporters see exactly who this terrorist organization they came to support and whom they are working for is, what atrocities they committed against women, the elderly, and children, and against whom Israel is fighting to defend itself,” he said.

This is great. I would recommend the IDF station a camera at the screening, so the world can see the passengers’ reactions. If they refuse to watch, this will reflect badly on them; if they watch and are unmoved, this will also reflect badly on them. And if they watch and are affected, then this is also a win.
