A woman called Veronica Sherman recently uploaded this video of herself burning her Israeli passport, accompanied by an antisemitic song comparing us to the Nazis:
She followed this up with proof it was really an Israeli passport:
Notice the hashtags, which include #JewsagainstZionism.
And elsewhere, she reaffirms she is an “As-a-Jew”, using her Judaism to gain “street cred” to bash Israel.
But here’s the thing. She is not Jewish.
I know this because I dug into her own story as she wrote in her own book called Happily Made.
Don’t worry, I didn’t read her book (I am not that much of a glutton for punishment), but she did make things easier for me by uploading videos of herself narrating it on her Youtube Channel. I simply downloaded the videos dealing with her childhood in Israel, downloaded the transcripts, and went over them to understand better her background.
Here’s some interesting things I learned about her:
- Veronica Sherman’s father was born Jewish but her mother wasn’t
- She found her Jewish father to be abusive
- Both her parents became religious Christians and moved to Israel to preach the Gospel and convert Jews to Christianity
- Veronica Sherman lived as a Christian in Israel and never really identified with Jewish Israelis
- She left Israel to preach the Gospel in New Zealand, but was already becoming disillisioned with Israel
In other words, she is being dishonest by painting herself as a Jew opposing Israel and someone who burned her passport as a Jew disillusioned with Israel’s conduct during this War. As a non-Jew with not such fond memories of Jewish Israelis (at one point she says she had no Jewish friends and also that Israelis never smile, in addition to recounting bad experiences she had there), I suspect she was more than happy to burn that passport anyway.
So let’s be clear: Veronica Sherman isn’t some disillusioned Jew taking a bold stand against Israel. She’s a disgruntled ex-missionary’s daughter, raised Christian, with a history of resentment toward Jewish Israelis – posing as a Jew to give her anti-Israel theatrics more weight.
Burning that passport wasn’t an act of conscience. It was performance art, drenched in bitterness and deceit.
And like so many others in the “As-a-Jew” grift, she’s banking on the fact that few people bother to check the bio behind the hashtags.
